How to Choose the Right Shelf Bracket Size

A shelf bracket should typically support two-thirds to three-quarters of the shelf depth.

Example:

Shelf depth Recommended bracket

8" shelf 6" bracket

10" shelf 7–8" bracket

12" shelf 8–10" bracket

14" shelf 10–12" bracket

For most installations:

• 16–30 inches apart is standard spacing
• align brackets with wall studs when possible
